Yoga Rhythms

by Shiva Rea

Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity.  This evolution includes all aspects of one's being, from bodily health to self-realization.  Yoga means union - the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul.  Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one's actions. Yoga teaches us to "cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured" (B.K.S. Iyengar, Astadala Yogamala, 2000). Yoga is known to be able to bring a person’s inner soul into proper alignment.

Yoga consists of a wide variety of movements and poses. Each one has its own special name and attribute that contributes to the overall well-being of the individual who selects to practice and enjoy its many benefits. One of the more popular sequences of movements that are known and practiced is the Sun Salutation. To see these twelve moves play out in their entire sequence is like watching true poetry in motion. It is said that sun salutations can energize and warm you, even on the darkest, coldest winter day (Carol Krucoff).

Although yoga can be practiced without music, the right rhythm and tempo greatly enhances anyone’s yoga routine. Finding just the right music to match your sequence of poses is often an exhausting experience. Shiva Rea has found the perfect complement that matches the riveting movements of the sun salutation. Through her audio CD Yoga Rhythms, she has captured the right mixes to guarantee a high intensity yoga workout. This audio is a fabulous collection of some of the most lively world music I have experienced. It is easy to see why Ms. Rea selected each song for its own special blend of new world culture.

Those that are seeking the perfect music to fill their yoga routines should turn to Shiva Rea. The artist describes this audio as being like the current of a river: this music is sometimes dynamic, invigorating, and uncharted, at other times tranquil, ancient, and steady - always satisfying. No greater words can help describe the beauty and tranquility that is contained on this on the memorable CD. Very highly recommended.
