Stor Amhran
A Wealth of Songs

by Noirin Ni Riain

Ireland is rich in literature that understands a soul's yearnings, and dancing that understands a happy heart.
Margaret Jackson

Ireland - a land so rich in historical mystery. Whose green fields and gentle breezes carry their own silent message of tranquility.

Noirin Ni Riain has captured and managed to preserve some of the oldest Irish folklore songs ever written. Each of the nineteen memorable tunes contained on this one audio was taught by a Cork Singer, Pilib O’Laoghaire (1910-1976). Miraculously they have survived for centuries, passed down from one generation to the next. With the creation of Stor Amhran (A Wealth of Songs) the world now has a piece of history that can passed down for many more centuries.

Noirin Ni Riain’s haunting voice lends a sense of true Celtic authenticity to this collection. It is like you’ve been sent back to the turn of the century when these songs were sung by many bonny lads and lasses. I was thrilled that she put such a large collection on one audio. Usually similar titles offer only half of what this audio contains.

Those who seek the best of the Celtic world should definitely experience Stor Amhran (A Wealth of Songs). You will find each track is a piece of rare gold. Not many audios exist that can offer the listener such a wealth of music treasures. Very highly recommended.
