Buffy is up against double trouble in this novel, set during the third season of the series. She not only has to combat a truly immortal vampire who can hop straight into another body when killed but she also has to face up to the fact that her mother is seriously ill, and cancer cannot be destroyed with a stake. Of course she has her friends to help – and hinder – her as always but even the doughty Angel is powerless against disease. And why are the graves in all of the local cemeteries being robbed? Something big is about to happen involving the new vampire-on-the-block Veronique and her new brood of undead…
The authors nicely offset the Californian
teenage banter and supernatural action with the more serious issue of dangerous
illness without getting too bogged down in sentiment and depressing the readers.
A worthy addition to the growing number of books based around this popular show.
