of the show know all about Buffy, but what about the many Slayers that
have come before her? This novel introduces us to India Cohen who was
Buffy 's immediate predecessor and also features the butt-kicking, streetwise
Faith and Kendra, who was briefly called into being when Buffy died for
a few seconds. An ancient evil has been awakened and thirsts for souls,
presenting itself in the form of four mummies representing the four elements
and bearing boxes made of the bones of former Slayers. It also causes
weather disasters in the form of earthquakes and tidal waves and is after As is often the case, this is a nice mix of action-packed story and real-life situations as Xander deals with his embarrassing parents, Buffy deals with bereavement, and Faith deals with everything, including envy for what her fellow Slayer has in the way of home and family. It links in too with other books such as the Unseen trilogy, and even more than usual, the books based on the series seem to have taken on a serial life of their own, which is a good thing. |
