At seventeen, and still hurting from the betrayal by her last boyfriend, Todd, Ryann Anderson was not looking for romance. It was the end of the school year and all Ryann wanted to do was graduate from high school and enjoy her last summer at home before she went away to Carlson College. But her life took a sudden and unexpected turn.

Ryann and Jeremy Waters had been friends for years, but both knew they could never be a couple. Their friendship was that of brother and sister. So it was that Ryann had gone with Jeremy and his girlfriend, Katie, to the movies. Ryann was already under the strain of trying to mollify Katie's unreasonable jealousy. And then, she ran into Ben - literally.

Though Ryann was white and Ben was black, they were immediately attracted to each other. But could their feelings for each other survive the critical stare of those who saw race as a reason they should not be together?

Nichole Finger does an expert job of examining the prejudices and unreasonable hatred people have of someone whose skin happens to be a different color from their own. She also tackles the consequences some interracial couples have encountered simply because they love each other. Her view is that race shouldn't matter, and this reviewer could not agree more! This book is a must-read for all teens, and for all parents of teens. It just might make them think twice about race hatred.
