Keeper of the Realm
Book Three of the Keeper Series
By H J Ralles

In Book Two, Keeper of the Empire, Matt has won the second level of his computer game. He must play and win the third level to get home. Now, he finds himself in a field of tall corn. He can hear a girl fighting her captors, but from the size of their boots, he knows he can’t help her. Those have got to be the biggest feet he’s ever seen! That impression is confirmed when one of the beings steps on his hand, almost crushing his fingers.

When the things are gone, someone whispers to him from the corn stalks. It is Targon, his friend from the kingdom of Zaul, who has been transported with him to both the second and third levels. He hasn’t seen Varl, the elderly Zaulian scientist. He does, however, have Matt’s laptop, which has the clues to winning this level.

This time, they must save the people of Gova from the Vorgs, eight-foot, venom-spitting lizards. Instead of destroying the keeper, they must activate it to save Gova and win the game. First, they must find Varl, who is having his own problems.

He has landed in a desensitization chamber. He is caught by the Vorg commander and sees that desensitization turns humans into mindless zombies. He escapes as do Matt and Targon, with the girl from the corn field, a redhead named Angel. Can they find the keeper and activate it? Will Matt get home?

Keeper of the Realm has all the wild, but essential improbabilities of any computer game. The characters are warm and real and there are lessons to be learned. There is also an unexpected surprise at the end. H. J. Ralles just keeps getting better.
