Rider in the Dark
By Victoria Holmes
Fifteen
year old Helena Roseby is a superb horsewoman, but when her father
brings home a beautiful stallion, Oriel, everything in her world
changes.
This
coming of age book features plenty of fast paced action with smugglers,
a gang of ship wreckers and a horse race. The descriptions of life
for a teenage girl are eye-opening for today's young teens. One
example is that girls rode horses side saddle and that girls were
considered educated if they could run a household.
Helena
is a multi-dimensional character, who develops her own self-worth
through a series of events that force her to make choices and realize
that things are not always what they seem.
