Keep Me In Mind
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
by Nancy Holder
If, like this reviewer, you
spent the later series of Buffy wishing that her time at high school
hadn't ended so quickly, then this book is for you. It takes the
reader back to those far-off days, before Angel and Cordelia left
for LA but with a difference - you get to choose what happens in
the book!
Back in my own high school
years there was a book called The Warlock of Firetop Mountain
which started the fashion for these pick-your-own stories. Read
a section, make your choices at the end of it, and turn to the appropriate
page. Will you succeed and get rid of the evil sorcerer from mediaeval
Bavaria, or will another Slayer be summoned to replace you? There
are many possible endings, and only thinking like Buffy will get
you to the right one. Of course, much fun can be had in playing
it different ways and thus this is not a book you just read through
once, or indeed actually read through at all. The story itself is
quite simple - maybe as a straight novel it might be a bit too simple
- but it isn't just an ordinary book and too much depth would be
very confusing. It's fun and great nostalgia value too for fans
- just the thing to take with you on holiday. |
