Late one winter afternoon Josh's father has a fearsome
toothache and sends his son to find him some herbal relief. The
events that follow change Josh's life forever.
The Colorado woods, under heavy snowfall, at dusk
can be a scary place. When Josh sees an arrow-shot deer running
away he realizes that one of his worst fears is somewhere close
by: an Indian!
Josh has had very little contact with Indians and
all the stories that he has been told have only served to heighten
his fear.
Josh panics, running headlong through the snow covered
forest, and injures himself gravely. When he awakens he looks directly
into the eyes of his greatest nightmare.
This is when Josh's education begins and the young
boy soon becomes a man. Josh is taken into the stranger, Eagleman's
family while being nursed back to health and the resulting adventures
make for a wonderful story.
Billie Williams does a wonderful job of telling
the story of a young Colorado boy, his coming of age and the understanding
and respect he develops for the Native American culture. Also he
realizes the life that his father has tried so hard to make for
him.
