Bass Ackwards and Belly Up

by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain

Craft and Fain have created a lively and engaging story of four high school friends who have reached a crossroad in their lives: graduation. Brainy and perfect Kate is bound for Harvard. Sporty Becca is headed to Middlebury to join the ski team. Beautiful Sophie is going to stay in Boulder and attend college there. Harper, the quirky writer, is heading off to New York for college and life in the big city. Or is she?

This excellent novel is all about dreams and what happens to people when their dreams change. Characters are lively and refreshingly well-rounded. Unlike other books that follow groups of friends, Becca is more than 'the sporty one.' She has feelings and insecurities totally unrelated to her passion for skiing, which makes for a vibrant and enriching read. Because the characters are so well written, I never found myself slogging through one girl's story waiting to get back to another. Each girl has characteristics that will resonate with any reader and you won't be able to put this book down!

With graduation season upon us, this book would make a great gift for the graduate in your life.
