Before I Go
by Riley Weston
Weston's debut novel, Before I Go, follows several acclaimed screen and television scripts, and we will
certainly see more of this talented writer with a teen comedy and a Christmas story coming out in 2007.
In this very moving novel, Annie gave up her dream of being an Olympic skating champion long ago, but her beautiful
sixteen-year-old daughter, Madison Henry, is good enough on the ice to fulfill that dream. Annie is a strict coach
and there has been no time for anything but skating since Madison was a very young child. Jack has been her only
friend for as long as she can remember, but she seems completely oblivious to his deep feelings for her. Skating
is the only topic of conversation at the Henry household, and many hours each day are spent at the ice rink.
Madison's goal seems to be in sight, and then the unthinkable happens. She may never skate again. Everyone must
look at life in a different way now. Riley Weston has managed to capture the wonderful mother-daughter bond between
Annie and Madison and the devotion of Jack for the love of his life. As Madison comes to terms with the disappointment
of not being able to skate, she begins to realize the immensity of Annie's selfless sacrifice for her, and the
wonderful solace and joy of Jack's undying love. This novel is filled with the soaring excitement of women's ice
skating and the raw emotion that you will long remember as these people struggle with their deep feelings and try
to put their lives in perspective. |
