Haters
by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez
Read by Flora Diaz
Paski is a special teenager trying to live a normal life. Her life makes a dramatic change after her father returns
from a trip acting young and hip - no more worries about Global Warming and eating right. It's all about LIFE
and LIVING! Soon he announces they're moving from New Mexico's popular artist town to Southern California.
Paski's dad is ready to show her the life he's discovered and is anxious to enjoy full time.
With Dad's comic strip coming to life on the big screen, life has gotten just little bit easier, but it's too
bad money can't buy a teen life without peer pressure and misery. Paski's new school is all about material possessions
and succeeding. She may be an apartment dweller, but she's attractive, excels in biking and has a psychic gift handed
down from her grandmother. Paski discovers how to use those strengths to survive the Haters and help those
less fortunate. Her gift even prepares her for the changes in her father's life.
Haters is about teen life in a warm, sunny climate, surrounded by the less fortunate and the shallow.
The young characters go through the usual range of teen changes - relationships, choices, and consequences. What
makes this teen book worth recommending is Paski. She's much more grounded than the typical, self-absorbed teen.
Maybe her relationship with her grandmother and her psychic gift are why. In the audio version, actress of stage
and TV, Flora Diaz, brings Paski and her tribulations to life on a grand scale. Haters is a novel teens
will enjoy and parents will gladly recommend. |
