Prisoners Under Glass

by R. Patrick

This story about thirteen year old Rachel and her quest to find her missing mother is a challenge to the imagination. During a vacation in Venice, Rachel's mother disappears, and then her father is infatuated by a beautiful shopkeeper who sells unique waterglobes as souvenirs.  He buys dozens of them for his California shop, and then ends up marrying the bewitching Lilah.

Rachel discovers that the waterglobes are inhabited by real people who have been shrunken by magic waters. When one of them is broken, and Guiseppe emerges to tell his story, they unite with Sam, a retired sea captain who had escaped Lilah, and a school friend, Justine. They escape Lilah's pursuit and embark on an odyssey to find Rachel's mother.  Their journey through dangerous caverns beneath the sea is fraught with perils...mudsuckers, flyfires, sea witches, and the dark magic of her wicked step-mother-sea-witch, Lilah, who is gaining on them every moment. The group learns to do some magic tricks of their own and must outwit a new adversary at every turn.

Though it has been compared to Harry Potter, and even to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, this exciting adventure-fantasy is in a class of its own. Patrick's unique debut novel is peopled by great characters, some to love, and some to fear. The plot is fast paced and thrilling...you'll want to read right through to the electrifying climax.
