Clausen is a great storyteller,
but if you are a beginning writer looking for writing advice, this book
does not help. Clausen does give helpful advice on nonfiction marketing
for published freelancers, but if you are looking for a book that will
let you quit your day job, don't tender your resignation yet. If you are
already a published writer, and need to broaden your marketing skills,
and learn to promote yourself, here is help for you.
Clausen gives you the
motivation to make the commitment, to get out there and hunt up freelance
assignments. He advises you to find an anchor client that furnishes assignments
on a regular basis, and then to cast the net for a variety of freelance
assignments in direct mail, promotions, newspaper and magazine articles,
advertising copy and books.
Clausen is a very successful
freelance writer that has profited by the ideas that he sets forth in
this book, but I was disappointed and felt that the promises on the dust
jacket were misleading. Fiction writers will gain very little insight
from this book.
