In "The Best American Science Writing 2002," editors Matt Ridley
and Jesse Cohen showcase 21 authors of various periodicals. Each article
tells a tale of science issues in this technologically driven age; from
the "mad scientist" perspective of Dr. Joe Rosen, a plastic
surgeon, to the validation of quantum physics by Dr. David Deutsch.
The reader will not only get some touching human interest stories, but
also a great deal of scientific and technological facts as well as some
history. This compendium also brings up the issue of attempting to relate
science to light, in every single part of our lives. Although in some
senses this is quite possible, in others, there is discord and disharmony.
However, this book will provoke the thoughtful reader and may even change
how one views science as a whole. I recommend this book on that basis
alone.
