Beecher White is an
Archivist. He is passionate about history and his job. One day an
old classmate shows up, and Beecher’s childhood crush is relit.
Clementine is looking for her real father. Before they begin Beecher
shows her a vault in the National Archive where US presidents view
documents that are not allowed out of the building. It’s here
that a deadly history reveals itself, and a co-worker dies. They
discover an artifact left behind by George Washington: a dictionary.
This little book holds a secret; those expecting to find it are
now ready to kill to retrieve it. The couple is taken down various
paths -- personal, historical, political, and conspiratorial --
to solve this extraordinary mystery.
I enjoyed this main
character; Beecher is likeable. As he runs the gambit to solve the
puzzle and survive, the readers see a quiet, dejected, young man
develop into courageous leader. When it comes to women, Beecher
appears to be used and abused. One minute Clementine needs him,
and the next minute she doesn’t. I just didn’t warm
to her character, and maybe she’s written that way…
It’s a thriller
complete with history, National Archive insight, and conspiracy/secret
society possibilities -- everything needed to create a ride at breakneck
speed. Gotta love it.
And if that
isn’t enough, Scott Brick narrates…. Once you get on
this ride you won’t want to get off until it’s over.
