Lighthouse Library Mystery #2, Booked for Trouble, returns readers to the life of lighthouse librarian Lucy Richardson. Lucy's mother, Suzanne, has come for a visit, intent on bringing her daughter back to Boston with her to reunite with her ex-fiance. Lucy, however, has other ideas. She is equally determined to stay in the Outer Banks, living and working at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library. She has new friends, interesting coworkers, and is even in the midst of a potential love triangle with two handsome men vying for her attention!

Despite the two women's conflict, Lucy is concerned about her mother. While her mother sometimes takes little trips without her father, this time seems different. She doesn't want to discuss him, and she has taken to drinking more and more. Suzanne gets into a fight with a housekeeper at the hotel she is booked at, and the housekeeper just happens to have been a former classmate of hers. Karen Kivas, the classmate/housekeeper is later murdered, out by the library, and Suzanne is the prime suspect.

Although the local police are on the case, they don't seem to be actively searching for the real killer, and Lucy is confident that her mother is not guilty, so she sets out to unravel the clues and find the murderer in order to prove her mother's innocence.

I was happy to find Lucy and her cohorts from the library back for a new installment in this series, and found Booked for Trouble to be a fun and well-paced read. It was nice to learn more about Lucy's family, getting to know her snobbish mother, and about the dynamic between her parents, even though her father didn't appear actively in the story.

With a lighthouse library, a library cat, eccentric characters, and people who are good at keeping secrets, Booked for Trouble is a great book for a book club. I highly recommend it to cozy mystery lovers who love a bit of Southern charm and the bonus of a library cat by the name of Charles. Who can go wrong with a library cat? Enjoy the read!
