Cozy
mystery author Kate Kingsbury is back with an all new series
starring Liza Harris and her grown granddaughter Melanie West.
Readers will find Liza and Melanie’s relationship is
easygoing and entertaining. Liza convinces Melanie to join
her on the Oregon coast. Their new home is a mansion turned
Bed and Breakfast. There is no fear for Liza heading into
their new endeavor, however Melanie is nervous and with reason…
The mansion, renamed the Merry Ghost Inn, comes with a laughing
ghost, a former tenant sealed up in a wall and an ocean view
to die for.
The mystery opens with the ladies discovering the body of
a woman. Enter stage left, the attractive Officer Ben Carter.
Officer Carter is assigned to their case, but something happens
and he puts their case on hold, as well as the Inn’s
opening. The ladies decided to investigate the murder themselves.
The two successfully mix B&B work with pleasure and sleuthing
to discover the truth about the victim and her death. It’s
a treacherous path with plenty of twists and turns, some deadly,
but these strong-willed ladies are emotionally committed to
the victim and their new home.
Dead
and Breakfast is a brilliant First in series. The clues
are well hidden, the dialogue flows, and the characters are
entertaining and likable. The laughing ghost shows up from
time to time and hints of who he might be leaves us wanting
more. The various cues about Melanie and her mother will pique
the interest of die-hard cozy followers and have them coming
back for more.
